Word from our Director

Blue Ridge Women’s Center marked my life long before I was employed here.

In 1990, I walked through the doors with an unplanned pregnancy feeling scared, confused, and alone. But from the second I stepped inside, everything changed. I never felt the judgment or shame I was expecting — instead, I was loved and cared for. I felt safe at every step, and I left filled with hope. I built a relationship with the team there and continued to receive counseling up until the birth of my daughter. I know Blue Ridge Women’s Center changes lives because it changed mine.

I walked through the doors again in 2008, this time for an internship for my bachelor’s degree — and I never left. God has allowed me to serve in multiple areas of the center over the years, and now, as Executive Director. I’m grateful for that same privilege, to serve women with love and care, equip them to make informed choices, and provide them safe and steady support just like I received when I walked through those doors many years ago.

In my time as director here, I’ve seen God do incredible things. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we’ve been able to expand our services and invest in the lives of thousands of women. We hope to create satellite locations to serve even more families in the years ahead, and we’re even launching a men’s program, with client advocates specifically for men and spaces to serve them well through life’s transitions.

I’ve been at Blue Ridge Women’s center for many years, but I feel like we’re just getting started.

Ann Russell,
Executive Director
