Job Title: Staff Nurse

Reports to: Nurse Manager

Classification: Hourly, approx. 20 hours/week

Job Summary: Provide medical services offered to meet client needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Nursing Care
  • Provide nursing care: assess patient needs and make nursing judgments which reflect safe nursing practices.
  • Maintain accurate records, care plans and follow-through on Nurse Manager’s standing orders.
  • Implement physician’s orders and advise physicians of patient’s progress and changes in condition.
  • Advise Medical Director when a client’s condition falls outside the norm or is referred for emergency treatment.
  • Assist Medical Director or other physicians with exams and treatments as needed.
  • Provide reproductive education for patient and family to develop an understanding of their health condition.
  • Perform pregnancy tests, STD testing, and ultrasounds.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Nurse Manager.

     2. Volunteer Development

  • Assist Nurse Manager in training medical volunteers in policies, procedures and practices of the Blue Ridge Women’s Center pertaining to medical ministry.
  • Assist Clinical Services Manager and Nurse Manager in providing medical in-services for volunteers.
  • Help provide spiritual leadership to medical volunteers.

Qualifications:              

Personal Characteristics:

  • Must be a committed Christian who demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior, as evidenced by a consistent Christian walk, regular Bible study and church attendance.
  • Must maintain a consistent sanctity of life position and would not refer or advise a woman to have an abortion. 
  • Must be committed to BRWC’s life-centric approach of ministering and not manipulating.
  • Must agree with BRWC’s Statement of Faith, Mission, Principles, and Commitment of Care and Competence
  • Must be willing to maintain a professional appearance and manner.
  • Must be self-motivated, dependable, and responsible.
  • Must have the ability to organize and perform work in cooperation with other staff members.
  • Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Must be able to provide spiritual leadership and support for staff and volunteers.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including some evenings.

Skills:

  • Understand and be able to model and communicate biblical concepts and principals that relate to human life, sexuality and medicine.
  • Have demonstrated leadership in the nursing profession.
  • Exhibit skill in interpersonal and written communication.
  • Have experience in volunteer management and training.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in networking with other medical professionals.
  • Carry out responsibilities with little direct supervision.

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:

  • An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing, or must be a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
  • 3-5 year minimum nursing experience or in a hospital or outpatient setting or RDMS experience
  • If a registered nurse, must hold a current Registered Nurse’s License in good standing with the Medical Board of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • If a registered diagnostic medical sonographer, must hold a current Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer credentials with OB/Gyn specialty.
  • Sonogram expertise in limited obstetrical ultrasounds
  • Experience with pregnancy and STI testing 
  • Current CPR certificate

Job Title: Client Advocate B

Reports to: Client Services Manager

Classification: Hourly, approx. 30 hours/week

Job Summary: Assist the Client Advocate Manager by providing support to clients regarding pregnancy options and/or reproductive loss.  Consult with clients to assess their needs and advocate for them through relationship and community resources.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Advocate for clients:
    • Assess clients’ needs, situations, strengths, and support networks to determine their goals.
    • Empower clients to become involved in their own planning and goal setting.
    • Offer information and counseling to help client determine next steps for the best course of action.
    • Facilitate assistance for clients by referring them to community resources and helping arrange appointments, if necessary.
    • Create and maintain client information by documenting client’s situation and actions both in a physical file and in computer database.
    • Communicate and follow up with clients after service provision.
  2. Assist Client Services Coordinator with answering the phone, greeting visitors, and facilitating front desk responsibilities as necessary or in her absence.
  3. Assist Client Services Manager by having new counselor trainees observe client counseling sessions and by providing information/training on volunteer counselor responsibilities.
  4. When Client Services Manager is unavailable, oversee prayer time and after-session processing with volunteer counselors.
  5. Learn about and communicate with community resources in order to maintain current resources and referrals for clients.
  6. Assist Client Services Manager as needed by facilitating group or individual support sessions with clients regarding reproductive loss.
  7. Attend staff meetings and all required in-service training events.
  8. Perform any and all duties and responsibilities as assigned by CEO and Client Services Manager to support the functions of BRWC.
  9. Monitor baby store for donations and serve as point of contact for volunteers working in the baby store.

  • Must have the ability to organize and perform work in cooperation with other staff members.
  • Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Must have ability to flexibly adapt to varied demands of role in order to develop the overall program.
  • Must have patience and ability to teach counseling concepts and practical counseling skills to others.
  • Must be able to work evenings in order to supervise volunteers during open hours and to conduct volunteer training as needed.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

  • Must have excellent leadership and human relations skills
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to tend to detail and follow-up tasks
  • Proficiency in use of word processing and database application

  1. Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work or human development or equivalent experience
  • Minimum one year’s experience working in the helping profession, in ministry, or with those who have experienced crisis/trauma
